About Drifting Pretty
IntroductionThe Drifting Pretty Program is the premier drift training program for women in California. It was established in late 2003 by Nadine Toyoda. Toyoda and her former driving partner Yoshie Shuyama were the only women out at the United States' drift tracks in the 2002-2003 drifting season and saw the need for a program like this.
In the past years, the drifting scene has grown tremendously, but mostly just for men. For women on the other hand, there has not been a prominent woman drifter community recognized as they have so in Japan. The Drifting Pretty Program has been changing that here in the states. In the program's first year alone, the amount of women driving at drifting events in Southern California increased 400%! Now, as the program is in its 4th year, many new faces have stepped forward to join the rapidly growing woman drifter population. DP has expanded their curriculum to not only helping teach girls how to race, but how to work on their race cars, obtain sponsorships, and above all: how to be a role model for our future woman drifters of the world!
Vision
A vibrant community of women drift enthusiasts that share lifelong friendships with each other.
Mission
To develop a prominent community of women out on the United States' drifting tracks and provide them with a comfortable learning experience that they can benefit from for years to come.
Details
We truly believe that dedication, persistency, sportsmanship and teamwork are the vital keys to success in this program. Women join this program to meet new friends, learn how to work on their car, learn how to have fun on the track and of course learn how to drift.
This program follows a highly structured curriculum of training activities, ranging from monthly meetings, racing lectures, tech lessons, as well as hands-on race training in a variety of settings. Women in this program participate in autocrosses, road races, drifting practices, and go-karting sessions.
Membership
To become a member of this program, ladies must have a valid California Driver's License, and preferably ownership of a car that they will be using to drift. If the applicant has not yet purchased her "drift car"
we do have an alternative membership status for ladies whom will purchase their car within three months. In addition, we are now accomodating ladies who are interested in "grip" driving only (that is, racing, not drifting).
All applicants must submit a proposal which answers a few basic questions, as follows:
- Tell us about yourself, what are you all about?
- Specs on your car, if you don't have one yet, what are you in the market for?
- Why you want to join
- Your goals in drifting/racing
All women that are interested in joining The Drifting Pretty Program are welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings to see what it is we actually do! Email to reserve a spot at our next meeting (check schedule for next meeting date). Also, please sign up for our official Yahoo Group. Email us your screenname and we will give you access to the private Girl Drifter forums.
As soon as we have 4 or more applicants awaiting, we hold a Prospective Members meeting. This meeting is an informative presentation and introduction on The Drifting Pretty Program. There you can meet the members of The Drifting Pretty Program and Team Drifting Pretty (our competition Drifting Team) and of course see if Drifting Pretty is for you. On average these meetings are held every other month and are announced via email and our BBS. If you would like to be on our Prospective member email list, please e-mail us today!
